Situated on the western slopes of the Vaca Mountain Range and boasting elevation up to 2,663 feet, Atlas Peak is the most prominent peak in the Napa Valley. Just below, and to the south of famed Pritchard Hill, Atlas Peak grapes enjoy long, warm summer days, but are afforded the chance to cool down at night thanks to the increased diurnal temperature variation (upwards of 30 F). The soils in the AVA are mostly volcanic and highly porous, which aids drainage and allows the vines to cool down quickly. This kind of terroir lends itself naturally to lower-yield, but higher-quality wines.
